How to Get DJ Gigs in London: A Starter Guide

· 6 min read · Addy Records

London has one of the deepest club scenes in the world — and plenty of competition. Here's how new DJs can work their way in.

Build a mix portfolio

Record a few 45–60 minute mixes that show your style clearly. Promoters book DJs who fit their night, so focus on your lane — deep, tech, garage — rather than trying to please everyone.

Go out and be part of the scene

Most early bookings come from relationships. Go to the nights you want to play, support other DJs and get to know promoters before asking them for anything.

Approach promoters the right way

Send a short message with one mix link, a few sentences about you and why you fit their night. Be ready to play an early warm-up slot — doing it well is how you earn the later ones.

Start your own night

Many London DJs started by throwing small parties in bars with friends. It builds your crowd, your skills and your reputation as someone who makes things happen.
