Instagram for DJs and Producers: A Strategy That Actually Works
· 7 min read · Addy Records
Instagram is still where promoters, labels and fans check you out first. You don't need to post every day — you need a clear plan you can stick to.
Pick three content pillars
Decide what your account is about. A simple mix works well for most artists:
- Music — clips of your tracks, previews, studio sessions
- Performance — short clips from your sets with the crowd in shot
- Personality — who you are, what you listen to, your city
Lead with Reels
Short vertical video is how new people discover you. Hook viewers in the first two seconds: a drop, a crowd reaction or a striking visual. Keep most clips under 30 seconds.
Post consistently, not constantly
Three good posts a week beats seven rushed ones. Batch-film content when you're in the studio or at a gig so you always have something ready.
Write captions that start conversations
Ask a question, credit the venue and other artists, and add a clear call to action — 'link in bio to pre-save'. Tagging collaborators puts you in front of their audiences too.
Use Stories for the everyday
Stories are perfect for behind-the-scenes moments, polls and reposting fans who tag you. Save the best into Highlights such as 'Mixes', 'Gigs' and 'Releases' so promoters can scan your profile quickly.
